Anybody here an Amex card holder?

Postby noahyzf1000 on Wed Jun 13, 2007 4:47 pm

Before you discount me and have me banned as a spammer, I've been trying for months to get the company I work for (not amex but a large insurance co) to go green. They are currently rennovating and now would be the perfect opportunity for them to install a PV array. I even researched an got in touch with the CEO of one of the companies that provides solar array's with virtually no upfront cost in exchange for signing a power purchase agreement that locks their rate per kwh for whatever term they decide on at or below curent rates. Do you know I couldn't even get the exec's at my company to read the proposal?! Ugh! My license plate is F*OPEC on my car. Nobody can believe that I got it through the DMV. I guess someone down there has a sense of humor and is a greenie.

Anyway, the reason this is my first post, and the title is about amex has to do with the "members project" promo they are currently running. They will be giving up to $5 million dollars to the winning project to exectue whatever the winning project is. There are alot of good ideas on there for anything from green energy to micro finance for emerging nations. And i think the more folks we get involved and the more good ideas they get the better chances we have of it making a difference.

I created the following projects myself and if you like them please vote 5 stars for me. And if you don't like them create a project of your own.
Piezo electric power generation from traffic
http://www.membersproject.com/Environment_Wildlife/6627
micro-hydro power generation from waste water
http://www.membersproject.com/Environment_Wildlife/6538
and one I've been working on for a year or so, distributed grid solar energy stations
http://www.membersproject.com/Environment_Wildlife/5127

Like I said if you don't like them create your own. Or poke around and find some there you do like. I just don't want to see Amex's $5 mil going to waste saving an airport or rennovating a train when it can go to far reaching green initiatives.

Thanks! And sorry for the long winded spam.

I checked out this site and it's legitimate.....I guess anyone can also submit an idea to try to get American Express to fund a "Green" project.

Anyone disagree, just let us know and we'll throw it on the compost pile. (or in the rubbish heap)

Last Day to submit or vote!

Postby noahyzf1000 on Sat Jun 16, 2007 12:02 pm

Thanks to anyone who has been able to get over to the Amex site and submit or vote. When you submit your project idea you give up all rights to it to Amex. So you can't be in it for personal gain. I posted these ideas to Amex thinking that they are attainable goals and would be a better place to throw their $5 million than a "dining car restoration project" or "save such and such airport". I obviously don't think that $5 Million dollars is anywhere near enough money to make a huge difference, but it's a start. And anything that can raise awareness and demonstrate the potential that exists everywhere around us to get more people thinking and acting toward a cleaner greener society should be leveraged. The complancency has to stop somewhere.

Thanks again! And good luck to any who posted!
