It would be great if there were more notes about the products seen on the show on the website. Sometimes the hardest part is trying to find what you saw on the internet.

Also, I'll admit to fast forwarding most of the commercials, but you should tell people that you are blogging about the shows on TreeHugger forums. If you already do, pls ignore that last part!!!!

And your confirmation code is driving me CRAZY!!!!

Lexy,

If you pop over the Planet Green site you will see there are product notes and other resources for some of the newest episodes of shows like Renovation Nation. If the information is available for a particular episode it will show up under the episode guide.

The problem is there many many older episodes still being aired that don't have the accompanying product info posted. I'm not sure if there are any plans by the PG staff to go back and get the resource info for the older ones... I think they may only intend on providing the information from Season Two onward.

As one of the Planet Green mods when it was a seperate forum, there is a chance I might know details on some products you are looking for though. Just ask, the worst that can happen is I won't know the answer and no one else will either.

Love the show, but Steve lose the 70's hair; get with the 21st century. Some of the shows show you look like a darn hippy.

Your 'Renovation Nation' show has done a disservice to the 'green' movement and to the protection of our environment. Using broken up concrete as rip-rap for shoreline protection is not acceptable. I worked for 30 years with Delaware's Deprtment of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and was finally able to pursuade the Department Chief not to allow the use of concrete for stabilization projects. It is not designed for the intended purpose, tends to not stay in place, is not environmentally friendly and is aesthetically unpleasing. It should be dispoosed of in a licensed landfill or properly redcycled.

The endorsement of this procedure by your show will unquestionably lead to the disposal of concrete into our waterways in the name of bank stabilization the outcome of which will be a huge negative for our environment.

A retraction of your endorsement should be aired immediately.

I have watched several episodes of the show now, and am firmly of the opinion that it should be retitled 'How really wealthy people build luxury dwellings in a green manner'. Most of the people are taking green steps that have nothing to do with my life - I will never buy a house in Venice Beach just to tear it down and build a house out of shipping containers. I will never be in a position to donate 100 acres of prime New England forest to a nature reserve and give my kids enough land to build a luxury house, or build a nearly 3000 square foot house for me and my two dogs, or turn my back on the world to spend a summer building a barn with hand tools. In fact that episode really annoyed me, wittering on about getting back to some mythical time in America's history, when the people who lived there grabbed as many power tools as they could and did their best to leave the back breaking tedium of their daily lives. What that couple did would be great as a museum, but please don't pretend that it's a lifestyle that 99.9% of the population would be prepared to tolerate.

Some of the information that Steve presents is interesting; who knew rescued wood from old barns would still be of use in builidng doors, I didn't. But the focus on really wealthy people, who don't have to worry about where the next rent check is coming from is getting wearing.

What I'd like to see are articles on the show about people who are doing their best to effect change on a more normal budget, after all those people will make far more difference in saving the planet than the people who you seem to be focused on at the moment.

I am desperately trying to find the contact info for a contractor featured on the episode with eco-farming - the guy had a solar home with PV and a grid tie, and was located in Chapel Hill, NC< I thinkj his name was Mark Markopoulis(sp?) Can anyone there at the show help me find him and/or his business? I am in need of an experienced contractor with this expertise...and am close enough to hopefully get him to my place in eastern NC>
A name and e-mail or phone number would be most appreciated.
Love the show....

Steve,
Good show. But sorry to say I've become annoyed at the word "passionate." This has become the minimum level of involvement. Even the pet dog must be passionate. Your guests seem to be interested, concerned, involved and enthusiastic. "Passionate" may overstate the case and the word has all but lost its meaning. Since most of the guests claim to be starting a family, they can save passion for that process.

I love the show and seeing everything that people have done and all the different ideas they've come up with. I do tend to agree that alot of what is done, is done by wealthy people and not by someone that can't afford to rip there house down to the studs. Yeah, I know the show is "renovation",but how about a renovation that involves stuff that can be affordable to your average home owner that's not a contractor or an Architect.

While it may be true most of the projects on the show are done by wealthy or well off people, it's up to the individual to do their research and come up with their own answers.
You want "cheap"? Here is just one example. Concentrated solar. That big ugly ole satellite antenna? Glue a slew of small mirrors to it, watch where the point of focus ends up. Run a loop of copper tubing through the center. Ah heck, you take it from there. I will say, it works fairly well.

Reason: removed condescending tone. It detracts from your post.

I just watched a show where Steve was interviewing the contractor in Atlanta who just had put in foam insulation in the attic. Steve asked him what the smell was from the foam. The contractor replied that "it was hydrogen - something we breath every day in the air". Close if not exact quote. Well hydrogen is not present in anything but minute amounts in the atmosphere and is odorless to boot. Still wondering what the correct answer to Steve's question is as I am considering foam insualtion for my home and I understand there are several types and would like to know about the offgassing for each type.

It would be great to be able to access featured episode information from the website, ie, designers/contractors names or websites.

If I am not mistaken you can find some of this information on the Planet Green Renovation Nation site, but only for episodes in Season Two.

For other inqueries you might try contacting the production company. Google Mike Mathis Productions.
