Energy Efficient Food service Equipment

Postby KaTomDanny on Thu Nov 05, 2009 12:16 pm

Going green is no longer just an issue that needs to be addressed with the large conglomerates, but something that is now hitting home with even the little guys. As a people it has become one of our top priorities to preserve what we have and renew (if possible) what we don’t. This way of thinking applies to the food service industry as well. We need to be thinking of energy efficient equipment when building or upgrading our foodservice facilities. Not only is this a direct benefit to our environment, but with the current population constantly thinking of ways to reduce, reuse and recycle it only makes sense that this population would frequent restaurants that genuinely care about their environment over those that do not. There are hundreds of ways for the food service industry to make environmentally conscious decisions and still be focused on their business. Some of the little things like switching from Styrofoam togo containers to paper/cardboard or using a hand dryer rather than paper towels are simple, inexpensive ideas that have a tremendous impact.

Focusing on Energy Star rated equipment is a great way kick your conservation into overdrive. Buying and using Energy Star equipment will not only save you money through its highly efficient energy consumption but think of how your customers will view your business. It’s a great decision to make economically and environmentally as well.
There are thousands of websites out there that can assist with, or give ideas on, making your business or home more environmentally friendly. A simple search will turn up several days worth of reading on the topic. There is no need to follow every idea on the internet but finding a few possibilities that are not too difficult to implement can make a substantial difference. It’s time to make an effort stop the damage we’re causing and eventually come up with a viable solution and hopefully reverse the damage we’ve caused.
