DeGrowth - Sustainable Communities

Postby SustainableMuskegon on Tue Oct 27, 2009 12:48 pm

Sorry, I don't have a link as I think most here are capable of googling. I am interested in local-minded economy - mostly beginning with local agriculture.

Sometimes those proponents of "DeGrowth" and "Green Technology" can sometimes bump heads because some believe that the green technology (and the green-washing) is only to hold off the eventual conversation for a degrowth economy. It is obvious that A growth based economy is unsustainable - my thought is to build "local" wealth by working within the community to build connections of resources, and initiate programs or processes to create more value in a community starting with food availability.

I have seen other programs where they set up a local currency and have different programs of that nature.

Thoughts? Good links to follow up on more information? I am really looking for something with discussion on the concept or different ways people are using the degrowth model for building strength in communities and local economy.

Degrowth is going to happen whether it's rationally planned or not.

When discussing this topic with others they compare the concept of planned degrowth to the ravings of the so-called Unabomber.

For those who stand long
And the forests will
Echo with laughter"
