Many good points indeed ---- of course ideal case scenario is to not create things we NEED to recycle in the first place ...

I can only give feedback from a UK/EU point of view and what I have seen here in the apst 40 years.
.....the UK is still a far cry from being a leader in the eco-friendly league.

How can a whole generation that has grown up on the 'Me-Me-Me' syndrome (equals materialistic overkill) be made to change their ways of how they see 'raw-materials' ? - THAT is the ultimate question to crack I think...

Yeah.. it matters what materials are being used. Some materials are just hard to recycle.
Styrofoam is one of them. It typically costs recyclers like 3x as much to recycle styrofoam than to actually make new styrofoam.. which means a lot of styrofoam goes right to our landfills. However, this company - http://www.livingwallart.com that makes living wall art uses used styrofoam to make their wall planters... which is a small step, but a step in the right direction.
