Just read how beekeeping is illegal in New York. Another one of Guliani's quality of life issues, like jaywalking and dancing. One more reason the SgtMjr has to not move to New York.
It sounds like dozens of people are risking huge fines for the privelige though. Neighbors are bought off with jars of honey and the city benefits. Wish that was true whenever someone broke the law.
(ADDED LATER) please sign the petition on the link provided by the sgtmjr, gothamcitybees.com. Over 150 new signatures since he added the link. Since most new yorkers probably think bees are dangerous animals, nyc's gansta beekeepers need your help overturning this city law. Otherwise how are we ever going to get to stop and smell the flowers.

Is that N.Y.City, or all N.Y. State? Lets hope we can keep our bees.

...only outlaws will have bees.
Had to finish that thought just to prove that it sounds just as dumb as it is. It seems some New York representatives just have too much time on their hands.

It's just inside the city limits of New York City, and there is currently legislation being considered to repeal the ban on beekeeping in NYC. You can read the legislation, email city council members, or show your support for it by signing the petition through the link at gotham city beekeepers website:

I've signed the petition.
This thread and sgtmjr's other one has inspired me to dedicate the rest of this week's posts on my blog to drawing some attention to Pollinator Week 2009 and encouraging my readers to sign the petition.
I've published the first post now, feel free to have a look and yell at me if I got something wrong ;-D
